Personal, Social, Health & Economic (PSHE)

The purpose of PSHE (personal, social, health & economic education) is to equip pupils with the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to lead confident, secure and independent lives, and to keep themselves happy, healthy and safe.

In PSHE, the spiral Jigsaw model builds emotional resilience, mindfulness, and social skills through six thematic ‘Puzzles’ each year. The themes – Being Me, Celebrating Difference, Dreams & Goals, Healthy Me, Relationships, Changing Me – continue throughout the Key Stages, however the content develops.

All students have a weekly lesson to explore age-appropriate and engaging topics; an opportunity to present crucial information and for pupils to share their views on relevant and meaningful topics. This helps us in our mission to produce the best adults of the future.

Lessons range from reflective journaling to class debates and often cross-over with Biology, Computing and PE. Content includes how to be safe online, First Aid, equality, Human Rights, healthy relationships, self-confidence, thinking about your future, decision-making, and changes with their bodies.

In the Lower School, the themes and topics are often mirrored in the assemblies and the lessons allow time for mindfulness activities. In the Upper School some topics are built on each further with guest speakers or workshops; for example, on cybercrime, knife crime, consent and transport safety.
