GCSE PE is aimed at pupils who enjoy sport and want to develop their practical abilities in range of activities. The course looks at reasons why we participate in sport and how knowledge and understanding of human physiology will enhance our performance. It also looks at healthy active lifestyles, analysis and evaluation of performance and risk assessments in physical activity.

The course consists mainly of theory based lessons to compliment the core PE lessons pupils still receive. Pupils do have the opportunity to undertake alternative practical activities depending on the needs of the group which may include activities such as personal survival, climbing, trampolining, coaching and officiating.

All pupils undertake a 6 week personal exercise programme, allowing them to apply the theoretical knowledge they have gained and improve their sporting performance. Alongside an analysis of performance where pupils analyse, compare and suggest improvements for sports people, the personal exercise programme contributes towards the controlled assessment requirements of the course.
