To celebrate British Pie Week, our GCSE Food and Nutrition cohort made the country’s favourite dish.

Chicken has been voted top savoury pie by 33% of people living in the England, closely followed by Cottage, fish and Shepherd’s.

Our Y9 students added mushrooms to the savoury dish and finished with a puff pastry lid, while the Y10s opted to make hand pies to further challenge their technical skills.

British Pie Week was started by pastry manufacturer, Jus-Rol, in 2007.  It celebrates the nation’s love of pies and encourages families to cook and eat together.

Across the UK, Cottage and chicken tied for top spot, with apple taking third place.  38% of people living in Wales voted Cottage pie their preferred choice, as did 35% from Northern Ireland.  Steak is the favourite filling for the Scottish population.

Why not have a go at making your own chicken and mushroom pie?  Please let us know how you get on, or if you are making another pie to mark the awareness week.
