Shell student Freddie was named top at times tables, after correctly answering 186 questions in just two minutes!
Freddie and fellow Gad’s mathematicians, from years four to eight, took part in Gad’s termly Times Table Rock Stars (TTRS) contest, which challenges competitors to answer online times tables questions quickly and accurately.
Gad’s is a member of the TTRS community – an exciting and interactive method of mastering times tables, where students solve on-line questions in a high-energy, call-and-response manner, with a rock music theme.
Head of Maths, Mr Richard Harris, said: “To succeed in maths, you must have a secure knowledge of your tables.
“Being able to recall answers quickly and effectively helps everybody progress onto more complex and challenging mathematical matters”
While recent research shows just 38% of 25 to 34-year-olds were able to recall their times tables without a hitch, Freddie scored an average of a correct answer every 0.6 seconds!
Gad’s competition standards were high, with scores at more than 80 or 90 correct answers every minute.
Well done to Senior and overall winner Freddie and year group champions; Harriet, J4; Isabelle, J5 and Shaan, Remove.
Mr Harris added: “Keep practising for the next competition in the run up to Easter.”
