Girls and boys from local primary schools took part in a football tournament, hosted by Gad’s Juniors in their school grounds.

Six teams competed in the first mixed under 11 round-robin competition, with St Joseph’s Convent Preparatory School named overall winner.

Gad’s Head of PE, Mr Ben McDowell, said:  “Gad’s girls have been inspired by this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup and football has become increasingly popular among them.

“Organising a mixed event means that everybody who wants to play can try out and it was great to see boys and girls play alongside each other.

“Welcoming other school squads, and their families, to Gad’s, encourages sportsmanship and healthy competition and we look forward to meeting them again in future matches.”

All games were officiated by Gad’s GCSE PE students.  Visiting teachers commended them on their exemplary standards of behaviour and professionalism’.

After, the participating children and their teachers enjoyed a team tea in Gad’s refectory, before coming together to congratulate St Joseph’s winning cohort, who all received medals, and everybody who took part.

Mr McDowell thanked the many parents from Gad’s and visiting schools for coming along to support the children and also the Gad’s groundsmen, who expertly prepared the pitches and grounds.
