Bethany Vs Gad’s Hill – 16th September 2019

The first U13 football fixture of the season took Gad’s to Bethany School where we won 6-1 this time last year.

This time round though it wasn’t as simple.  After a slow start Gad’s found themselves 2-0 down inside 10 minutes.  Bethany’s first came from a deep shot from the right wing which left Freddie B no chance in goal as it passed over every one and into the top corner.  The second came shortly after as Bethany’s quick passing caught the Gad’s defence off guard.

As the game went on Gad’s settled and became more confident.  Piling on the pressure, there were several opportunities forcing the Bethany goalkeeper into action.  Gad’s breakthrough came from a set piece.  Chris H’s perfect corner was met by Gad’s centre back Michael S powerfully headed it home.  2-1 at half time with it all to play for.

Aside from one opportunity from Bethany forcing a spectacular full-stretch save from Freddie B, the vast majority of the second half was dominated by Gad’s.  Some brilliant football saw chance after chance.  Gad’s midfielder Adeoye A was through on goal twice, but couldn’t find the net.  Max Cutler also just missed out on what would have been a most spectacular headed goal as he beat the Bethany goalie but hit the post.  Five minutes later Max found the same post again with a shot from range.

Gad’s showed fantastic character to persevere throughout the match and deserved a draw at least, but football doesn’t always work out that way.  Final score 2-1 to Bethany School.  Well played all!

Man of the Match: Max (Captain).
