Our reception classmates had their very first Spanish lesson this morning.

Head of Modern Foreign Languages, Miss Sophie Batther, said:  “Learning to speak a new language is a great life skill.

“Young children love to listen to stories, sing and role play with friends and that’s exactly how we introduce our Reception classmates to Spanish at Gad’s.

By experimenting with words and pronunciation in a fun and relaxed atmosphere, the four to five-year-olds quickly become comfortable remembering and using new words and phrases – and confident learners progress to develop strong speaking and writing skills.”

Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world so those who study it benefit both socially, by way of travel, and in the business world in their career choice.

Taught from Reception to Year eight, Seniors can then choose Spanish as one of their GCSE options.

This year’s Year nine cohort has already visited Madrid and Barcelona since joining the Senior school.  The five day trips featured specialist lessons at a language school, educational and cultural excursion and of course plenty of sightseeing and opportunities to practice conversational skills.
