Our Y7 classes created their very own ‘Batik’ canvases following a very productive first year of Senior art.
The classmates produced wax-resist pieces after being inspired by the work of artisan Dawn Delver.
Together, the 11-12 year-olds researched the 32 year-old traditional watercolourist’s work, which features animals, fantasy themes and vivid colours, and made their own interpretations using the Indonesian dyeing technique.
Art teacher Miss Rachael Baker, said: “The students have worked well this year and I am impressed by their enthusiasm, and final portfolios.
“I am proud of their ability to explore and engage with new methods and processes. How beautifully the sun shines through the wax-resist areas is testament to how well they have listened and studied before starting the practical work.”
