Our Y4 students watched their favourite book characters come to life on the big screen as part of this term’s literacy topic.

The 8-9 years-olds have been reading English children’s author Cressida Cowell’s book ‘How to train your dragon’ and visited a local cinema to find out more.

Before the viewing, the classmates prepared by talking about how they thought the characters would look, describing their features and personalities.

Class teacher Mrs Joanne Titler, said: “The children have really embraced this project about ‘the hilarious exploits of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third’ and written some brilliant informative texts on how they would train their very own dragon.”

The Junior corridor is testament to just how hard Y4 has worked this term. It is adorned with a fierce and colourful dragon display featuring their beautifully written pieces.

After the mid-morning movie, Y4 enjoyed lunch at McDonalds, where their money management and counting skills were put to the test as they were tasked with paying for their own food and checking the change – before sitting down together to enjoy the tasty treat.
