Former Gad’s catering assistant, Mrs Iris Dineen, 74, joined local pensioners at the school’s annual tea party – and was thrilled to be served by the soon-to-be Headmaster and his Senior students!
Mrs Dineen, who has just moved to Upnor after living opposite the independent school since 1970, was one of almost 50 villagers invited to the community event, complete with theatrical and musical shows and Pimm’s reception.
The tea party sees Gad’s students and teachers come together to plan and put on the gathering and was hosted by current Head of Senior School, Mr Paul Savage, who takes over from Headmaster Mr David Craggs in August.
Mrs Dineen said: “I’ve been making cakes and pastries for the school for 27 years and it was lovely to relax, meet old friends and enjoy a nice cup of tea with lots of sweet treats!”
“It’s been an honour to work at Gad’s and see the changes over the years and as we say good luck to Mr Craggs on his retirement and welcome Mr Savage, I look forward to many more years as part of the Gad’s family.”
The children are responsible for the entertainment, which this year included a Royal-themed quiz, and performances from music and drama students, while the catering staff bake savouries and cakes and the maintenance team provides transport
Each guest is given a present to take home – all lovingly donated and wrapped by the pupils.
