Year nine students at Gad’s Hill School are getting ready to celebrate National Picnic Week by using cake to learn more about area and volume.

The independent school’s catering team baked a selection of desserts for Head of Maths Mr Harris’ class to help make learning mathematical formulas a little sweeter!

Mr Harris said:  “Making lessons practical is always a good way to remember the many methods needed to succeed in maths.

“The students worked in teams to calculate the volume of the sector of their slice of cake and the area covered with icing sugar – and then of course enjoyed tasting the results!”

National Picnic week runs from 16-25 June and celebrates sharing good food with friends.
