Our youngest Seniors have produced some outstanding illustrations this term as part of their art studies on Surrealism.

Shell classmates are learning more about Belgian artist René François Ghislain Magritte, who is renowned for his witty and thought-provoking images, depicting ordinary objects in an unusual context.

Art and DT teacher Miss Baker said:  “The students have really embraced how Magritte challenges pre-conditioned perceptions of reality.

“They have expressed their interpretations using a range of different media, including pencil, pastel and chalk and shown real maturity in their research and comprehension skills.”

Magritte’s work explores exposing ordinary elements in unusual ways and his imagery has influenced pop, minimalist and conceptual art.
