Gad’s Hill students learned how to keep themselves and their families safe when firefighters from Kent Fire and Rescue Service spent a day at their school.

Children aged from 3-11 tried on firefighters’ kit and looked round a fire engine before taking part in age-appropriate workshops about what to do if a fire breaks out.

Year one teacher Miss Victoria Wilson said:  “The presentations were engaging, clear and informative and pitched at just the right level for our Nursery to Y6 pupils.

“The classmates were still buzzing about the excitement of the day at home time – everybody was looking forward to explaining to parents how to stay safe if a fire breaks out.”

Each child was given a colourful worksheet as part of the interactive learning sessions which detailed top tips to share with their families, including how to make an escape plan, testing smoke alarms and what to do if somebody gets burnt.
