Pupils from Gad’s Hill School have received rave reviews after completing work experience in a variety of industries in and around the county.
Oliver Fox, 15, from Ashford, was described as being more like a ‘colleague’ than work experience student, on completion of a week in the electrical and home technology department at John Lewis, Bluewater.
He was praised for his can-do attitude, ‘exemplary’ service skills and understanding of the department store’s customer-focused strategy.
Oliver was presented with a ‘One Step Beyond’ award, in recognition of his great attitude on the shop floor and ability to go ‘above and beyond’ in the workplace.
John Lewis Bluewater Operational Support Co-ordinator Lewis Broughton, who supervised him, said: “Oliver was an absolute pleasure and a real credit to Gad’s.
“Colleagues who worked alongside him sung his praises and said he was among the best students we have ever hosted – and are sorry he was only with us for a week!”
Gad’s received positive feedback from all of the 40 placement providers the cohort spent time with during the school’s annual work experience work.
The 14-15 year-olds worked in wide range of professions including banking, childcare, architecture, teaching and graphic design.
Gad’s Head of Careers and Work Related Learning, Mrs Stephanie Burke said: “Work experience is invaluable for our students. They are able to find out more about working life and we are so grateful to the many employers for providing them with real-world opportunities.
“Year-on-year, we receive comments on how hard working, courteous and reliable Gad’s pupils are during work experience and many are offered full-time employment after.
“This year’s cohort has returned more motivated for their final studies and with a clearer vision of their career goals.
If you are interested in offering a work experience placement for one of our students next year, 22-26 May 2017, please contact Mrs. Burke.
