The Haig Blue Baboons were crowned champions at the jungle-themed sports day with Wellington Green Gorillas and Beatty Red Rhinos coming a close second and third respectively.

All the children took part in agility, balance and speed games at activity stations manned by staff and Shell pupils.

The ‘jungle jump’, grab a gorilla’ and the ‘rhino relay’ proved very popular and Head of Games Mrs Gunnill said: “The children had great fun and practised lots of different athletic skills.

“Days like today help build our youngest pupils’ confidence and teach them about working in teams and supporting each other on the sports field.”

Mrs Gunnill went on to thank the year seven students for their help – she received many comments from KG parents praising their enthusiasm and maturity.

And while our nursery children attempted the hurdles and egg-and-spoon race, pupils from reception and years one and two represented their houses in the 40 metre sprint.

The sunny afternoon was finished with a parents’ race and tug-of-war.
