U4 visited the Olympic Park as part of their studies of the redevelopment of urban areas – and ran into Tom Daley, who was more than happy to chat and pose for a picture.
The class has been concentrating on the Stratford area and while en route, on the Docklands Light Railway, they were able to see first-hand the regeneration of the London Docklands.
They were then given guided tours of Westfield London shopping centre and Olympic Park, where they watched cyclists training in the velodrome and learned about the sustainable improvements in the park and Athletes’ Village.
Following the tours, the group stopped for lunch and ran into former world champion diver and television personality Tom Daley.
The next stop was a trip to the top of the ArcelorMittal Orbit viewing tower where students were able to see all the renovations inside the Olympic Stadium.
After taking the four hundred stairs down, the weary but excited U4s went swimming in the London Aquatics Centre training pool where they saw Tom again, who was training for a diving competition later that week.
