Gad’s pauses to remember fallen war heroes
Britain’s fallen war heroes have been remembered by staff and pupils at Gad’s Hill School, Higham with a two-minutes’ silence to mark Armistice Day.
The school joined the nation in silence at 11 o’clock in memory of those who have lost their lives while serving their country.
The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month marks the end of World War I when Germany and Allied troops reached a peace agreement in 1918.
Elsewhere, fifteen cadets from Gad’s Hill’s Combined Cadet Force (CCF) were honoured to participate in the Annual Service of Remembrance in Community Square, outside the Civic Centre in Gravesend. They joined representatives from the Army, Navy and Airforce, local dignitaries, veterans and members of the emergency services in a march around the square, before joining the rest of the country in a pause to remember the fallen.
Second Lieutenant Mark Lamb, who co-ordinated the cadet’s participation in the service said: “The school’s Combined Cadet force teaches our pupils the attributes of good citizenship, leadership and responsibility, and promotes physical and mental fitness and self reliance.
“As a consequence, our cadets have a great deal of respect for all of those in the armed forces, especially the fallen British service men and women of all generations. We wanted to pay tribute to them in a fitting way, and are very proud of our inclusion in today’s service. We thank Gravesend for inviting us to attend.”
