Kindergarten help local farmer with Autumn Harvest

Title Bar Kindergarten help local farmer with Autumn Harvest

Little ones from Kindergarten’s year 1 and 2 classes were treated to a wonderful trip to Higham Village’s own, very local, Gad’s Hill Farm as part of their study of Harvest.

Gad’s Hill pupils are lucky enough to go to school just down the road from this haven and during the week they were able to visit this small arable and fruit farm.

The four and five year-olds conducted themselves excellently as they walked from the Kindergarten down to the farm and were taken on a tour of the site by Farmer Bill Warnett.

The weather was beautiful and made the day out perfect for wandering around and looking at lots of fruit trees.

During the visit, the pupils listened to a very informative talk given by Mr. Warnett about the apple and pear trees.

They learnt a lot of new facts about how the fruit trees were planted and grown and when the fruit would be ripe and ready to pick and eat.

They also learnt about seasonal fruit and were even allowed to enjoy a juicy pear, which they chose and picked themselves!

The experience was fun and educational and gave the pupils a chance to escape the classroom and learn more about their surrounding environment. Even the teachers enjoyed the trip and appreciated the lovely views from the top of the orchard!
