Art

Art and Design embody some of the highest forms of human creativity. At Gad’s we aim to engage, inspire and challenge Junior pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art and design.

As pupils progress, they will learn how to use the language of art, such as colour, line, tone and shape, so they can think critically and develop a deeper understanding of their own and others art and design. They will also learn how Art and Design both reflect and shape our history and contribute to the culture and creativity of our nation.

Key Stage 2 Art and Design allows children to develop their imagination and at Gad’s, we provide them with the relevant artistic skills to express themselves fully.  Juniors begin with basic skills and are gradually introduced to more complex artistic techniques; including tonal and colour rendering and sketching from direct observation, so they are able to improve their control of materials and fully communicate their feelings and observations.

Not all children are natural artists, so at Gad’s we focus on creativity rather than accuracy.  The projects delivered by teaching staff are designed to develop key skills and enable all children to feel more confident when drawing, painting and expressing themselves creatively.
