Gad’s skiers become county champions!

Brothers Tyler and Aston Rodberg and Austin and Morgan Rhodes, alongside sisters Gabby and Libby Horner skied to victory with their team mates Zac Lucas and Sapphire Jardine Hettiaratchi to win the Under Eleven and Under Fourteen Kent Schools’ Skiing Championships in Bromley.

Each skier had two attempts to race against the clock in the competition; ploughing through a ten gate, dry-slope, slalom. The three best skier’s times were then combined to make up the team’s total time.

Gad’s Under Elevens won their event comfortably and were not only awarded the top prize for their age group, but also took overall Gold in the mixed Primary School category. This was thanks a great team effort from Gabby, who was placed 4th best girl, Sapphire, who came a close 5th and Tyler who came sixteenth in the boy’s competition.

Elsewhere, Folkestone Academy and Cranbrook School were well beaten by Gad’s Under Fourteens, who won their group by a massive 15 seconds.

Further success followed for the senior group as they were later awarded Silver overall in the mixed Secondary School Championships (including sixth forms).

PE Teacher Mr. Ray Jelfs, who coordinated the event, said: “I’m really proud of all those who took part in the competition. It was a tight contest, especially in Under Fourteens boys group, as they had over 50 participants taking part, but the Gad’s pupils came out with some great results. Morgan did extremely well to achieve a sixth place finish, while Austin and Zac came eleventh and thirteenth respectively.

“While the past few days have been very fine, the competition day was, long, cold and damp! So I would like to thank all the parents of skiers who came along and supported the children, giving them constant encouragement and demonstrating a fantastic commitment to Gad’s sporting endeavours."
