Gad’s Hill Juniors are happy, bright and confident children who have space and freedom to explore the world around them. We encourage their curiosity, nurture their emerging talents and promote their success in every endeavour.
As most parents appreciate, children at this age learn best by ‘doing’ and they have a natural interest in exploration, investigation and challenging themselves.
Our Junior School curriculum seeks to build on this undaunted love of adventure and we use this as a vehicle to carefully reinforce academic development.
Learning how to learn is a skill we teach from the outset and the Junior School could not reflect this thinking more closely in all that it does around academic and extra-curricular learning.
The Junior School builds upon the firm foundations laid in the Kindergarten with children following the National Curriculum Key stage 2. Literacy Numeracy and Humanities are taught by the children’s form tutor, with subject specialists teaching French, Science, Design and Technology, Art, ICT, Science, Drama, swimming and sports.
As the children get older the curriculum is linked to that of the Seniors, to enable a smooth transition between the two schools.
Great opportunities exist for extra-curricular and sporting activities, with students being provided with the opportunity to represent the School on the games field with a variety of competitive fixtures against other schools.
There are regular drama are music productions throughout the year allowing students to indulge in their passion to perform. Music remains very much part of the school day and all pupils have the chance to take instrumental lessons or enjoy one of the many after-school music or choir sessions.
Classroom studies are enhanced by learning away from the school grounds as well as lessons taught by visiting practitioners. When a child reaches the Junior School they will have the chance to take part in residential trips and expeditions to enable them to get to know their classmates better and to develop a sense of independence.
These all contribute to the busy, varied and, above all, happy life of Gad’s Junior School pupils.
We offer a broad and balanced curriculum that closely follows the National Curriculum. It is enhanced and enriched in order to provide every pupil with the opportunity to reach his or her potential.
The aim of the teaching at this stage is to achieve very strong foundations in the core literacy and numeracy skills, following the National Curriculum, meanwhile exciting children in the learning process. Subjects such as Art, Design Technology and the humanities are introduced at this stage to develop children’s inquisitive and creative side. We also introduce some specialist subject teaching where deemed appropriate and stimulating at this stage in subjects such as French, Music, PE and Information Communication Technology.
