SCHOOL CLOSED THURS 7th JAN

With regret the school will be closed on Thursday 7th Jan. This is not a decision I make lightly. Indeed those who have been with us a while will know that we try to stay open in such circumstances when, too often, other schools are closed.

The forecast for Thursday is for further snow at about tea-time, similar to Wednesday. However, the main reason for my decision is that a number of school staff were unable to get home until 8, 9 or even 10pm. Many, many hours after leaving school soon after 4pm. Indeed at the time of writing this update (2230 Wed 6th) a number of staff are still stranded in traffic. Some of whom have had to abandon their cars and walk home.

I cannot ask that staff attempt to make the return journey to school mere hours after such such a traumatic journey home. Even if I were to insist there is a good likelyhood that many would simply be unable to get to school in time, or at all. Especially those who would need to retreive abandoned cars.

This means that we cannot guarantee that we would have sufficient staff to operate the school effectively. We would be unable to deliver effective teaching nor ensure the safety of our children. Consequently, the school will be closed on Thurday 7th Jan.

As further snow is expected on Thursday afternoon please check the web-site for updates. We hope and will endeavour to open as usual on friday 8th. DGC
