Gad’s pianists enjoy a master class

Four of the school’s students were lucky enough this week to take part in a piano master class with world renowned pianist Richard Meyrick at The Rochester and Cobham Park Golf Club.

Henry Cavalier -Tej, Jess Hillocks, Alice Craggs and Robert Hunt each had a twenty minute lesson with Richard where he helped them with their technical ability, their interpretation of the music and their performance technique. The event was not only a great opportunity for Gad’s pupils to make a real difference to their playing but it also helped to raise funds for Demelza House Children’s Hospice.

Pupil Alice Craggs said, ‘I played three pieces for Mr. Meyrick, all pieces that I know off by heart and he was really impressed with this. He told me that I should pay close attention to how a composer wants a piece of music to be played and I will definitely bare this in mind next time I am learning a new piece. I feel really lucky to have had this opportunity and I hope it will make a real difference to my playing’

Richard, who has played all over the world, after first receiving a music scholarship to the Royal School of Music at just 16, is passionate about introducing young people to the classics and it is hoped that the students involved in this master class will go away with an enhanced excitement for the piano.

Our thanks to the Rochester and Cobham Park golf club for inviting Gad’s Hill to be part of this unique experience.
