Gad's Hill cadets win at regional shooting competition
Eight cadets from the schools contingent took part in the regional 4 div cadet shooting competition this weekend. The competition took place over two days at Pirbright ranges in Surrey with a total of 30 schools and Army cadet Forces taking part.
Saturday was spent competing in a range of events firing over a variety of distances with the main objective being to accrue as many points as possible. Our cadets walked away with medals after their sucess in one of a number of rifle matches.
Sunday was a knock out competition with cadets racing against other cadets to knock down seven targets at a distance of 200 meters. Both the Gad’s A and B teams got through to the third round after displaying some very fine shooting. Our teams were eventually knocked out, but only after giving two very experienced teams from the CCF and ACF a real run for their money.
At only four year’s old Gad’s Hill’s CCF is still a very young contingent and this was our first competition, it goes without saying that we have now proved what we are capable of and will be back next year to win more. The next big CCF competition will be the 4 Div. Skills competition in April and we hope to be able to train and enter a team in that.
Congratulations to the following cadets who made up our teams this weekend: Beau Mehmet,Fizzy Sparks,Will Short,Will Steele,Rohan Ghag,Rebecca Johnston,Harry Fance and Leonnie Wallace.
The school is in the process of creating an air rifle club that will take place after school on a Monday. The club is designed to hone the students' shooting skills as well as discovering some future talent from children in the younger years. For more information see Miss Garratt in the CCF office or Mr. Tassell our Air Rifle coach.
