Gad’s newcomer ‘scratches’ the surface of computer programming

Year Seven pupil Aaran Bhoday created his own online mathematical game, after learning coding in ICT lessons at Gad’s.

Aaron, 11, joined Gad’s in the Senior School and had not used computers in class before.

Now, so confident operating programming language ‘Scratch’, where students can create their own interactive stories, games, and animations, he was able to share his game with classmates for a fun maths lesson on the last day of term.

Peers were tested on prime, square and cube numbers to successfully complete on-screen challenges.

Fellow student Edward McGowan also formulated a game where students were tasked with linking shapes to their names and formulae to find areas.

Maths teacher Mrs Ostrehan said:   “I am so impressed with the boys’ ICT skills and their enthusiasm to be creative and share knowledge.”
