Gad’s mathematicians have their cake and eat it!

Our Year nine students spent a maths lesson learning about geometry aided by a cake baked their very own teacher!

The classmates honed their problem-solving skills by calculating the dimensions of a two-tier chocolate creation.

Maths teacher Mrs Ostrehan said:  “Woking practically really brings maths to life, and makes formulas more meaningful and easier to remember.”

Groups were challenged to work out diameter, radius, volume and circumference, before determining how much ribbon was used, as well as the area covered with icing sugar.

Mrs Ostrehan added:  “We well and truly explored and tested every measurement.  The most popular was figuring-out the degrees to ensure the cake was cut into equal slices, before sharing it at the end of a very productive session.”
