U11 footballers’ triumph

Our Junior squad won their latest football match 2-0 – read games teacher Mr Tyler’s match report:

On Friday 23rd October Gad’s Hill U11 football team took on Istead Rise Primary School in a 7 a-side match. The fixture was a re-match from the game played at the end of last year, where Istead had previously triumphed 5-0 with a dominant display. However this year the game was much more evenly contested, with both Gad’s Hill and Istead Rise playing some good football in the very warm conditions.

Istead Rise made the stronger start to the game, with Louis making some excellent saves to deny the opposition an early lead. Strong defensive displays from Cathal and Archie kept Istead at bay, whilst Jake, Aden and Tyler all went close with Gad’s best chances of the first half.

Gad’s captain Tyler had chosen to shoot against the slope in the first half and more defensive help from Tom and Manraj ensured that Gad’s entered the half time break at 0-0.

As the second half kicked off Tyler’s decision to shoot downhill in the second half looked to be a wise one as Istead Rise had some defending to do of their own. Once again it was Aden and Jake providing the main threat with some good attacking play leading to chances for Gad’s Hill. However, Istead Rise was still looking dangerous on the break and Louis was once again called into action with two smart saves from threatening free kicks.

With five minutes left to play Gad’s finally got the break through. Louis collected the ball in his own area and sent a long kick over the Istead defence for Jake to run on to. With a lot of time to think about his placement, Jake slotted the ball to the left hand side of the Istead Rise goal keeper and into the back of the net. Minutes later the game was sealed, as Aden neatly finished with a shot that went in off of the post. Despite some final pressure from Istead Rise, good defensive work once again came from Cathal and Manraj to ensure that Gad’s held on for a 2-0 victory.

Man of the Match – Cathal.
