Juniors at Gad’s took part in a school triathlon – supported by old Gadshillians and triathletes Morgan and Austin Rhodes.
The 18-year-old twins, who have represented Great Britain in triathlons all over the world suggested Gad’s games teacher Mr Jelfs put on the running, cycling and swimming event for students.
Morgan, who won a silver medal at this year’s European Triathlon Union Championships was unable to attend on the actual day but brother Austin was on-hand to encourage and give the young athletes tips on race technique.
More than 30 pupils from years five and six took part in the track components after completing a swimming race at a local pool.
Cheered on by proud parents and friends, the classmates took to the school’s field to compete before Crawford Middlemiss, 12, from St Mary’s Island, was announced as the overall winner.
Mr Jelfs said: “Having Austin and Morgan on-board is a real boost for the children, who have benefitted from their advice and been inspired by their achievements.
“Our students take part in a variety of team and individual sports and I hope to form a triathlon after-school club in the new term.”
