Upper 5th footballers triumph over staff

Well done to our year 11s, who beat the staff squad 7-4, in the annual Leavers v Staff match.

Read defender, and Head of Senior School, Mr Savage’s match report:

The Leavers earned victory over the Staff team in a fiercely contested match.

Both sides matched each other evenly in the first half, with the Staff equalising an early Leavers’ goal through a great solo effort from Mr Tyler.

The younger team were causing their more senior rivals all sorts of problems at the back, with a skilful attacking line up, featuring Alfie, Jayden and Ryan, creating several opportunities.

But the staff team held firm, until a second goal by the Leavers sent them in at the break with a 2-1 lead.

A bad injury to star staff player, Mr Tyler, reduced their threat in the second half and the Leavers were able to pull away to a 6-1 lead, with Cameron able to break forward into attack with increasing frequency.

However, the Staff rallied and closed the deficit, threatening even to come back and snatch a draw, but the game ended 7-4 to the boys.

Both teams gave their all but the game was played in good spirit, thanks to the refereeing of Michael.
