Cadets test life skills in a rather gory lesson

Our year nine cadets’ first aid skills were put to the test when they were faced with some horrific ‘injuries’ during today’s CCF lesson.

The group was tasked with treating their contingent contemporaries’ mock wounds, suffered as a result of some emergency scenarios set up around the school.

The first aid training session saw the cadets work as a team to assess the casualties and take responsibility for their care.

Convincing wound make-up and prosthetics were used to add drama and make the exercise more realistic.

Captain Jago, who led the exercise, said: “Out of the classroom activities really help bring the cadets’ classwork and practical first aid skills to life.

“The year tens planned and executed the lesson very well and demonstrated great knowledge and teamwork.

“I was equally impressed with the younger group’s quick and efficient responses to some very tricky situations.”
